This Week in AI:
If you thought AI-powered search was just a gimmick, think again. Google just flipped the switch on Gemini inside Search, meaning AI-generated answers are about to flood your screen. Meanwhile, Amazon is secretly working on an AI model to rival OpenAI and Anthropic—because of course, they are. And in a move no one saw coming, Digg.com, the legendary site that faded into obscurity, is making a comeback.
Let’s break it down.
In This Issue:
Google’s Gemini-Powered Search
(Full announcement here)
TL;DR:
Google just added Gemini to Search, offering even more accurate and better AI-generated answers. That means when you ask a complex question, Google will summarize the internet (like it’s been doing) but better and faster. It's currently rolling out to Google One AI Premium users and will expand soon.
Our Take:
This changes everything—for better or worse. On one hand, searching just got easier—no more digging through 10 blue links to find an answer. On the other hand, this could kill small websites and blogs overnight because people won’t click as much. If you run a website, it’s time to rethink your traffic strategy. This is Google’s world—we just live in it.
Amazon’s ‘Nova’ AI Model
(see full breakdown)
TL;DR:
Amazon is working on ‘Nova’, a new AI model designed for reasoning and complex problem-solving. It’s being built to compete with OpenAI and Anthropic, and it could launch as early as June. Amazon’s AGI team, led by Rohit Prasad (ex-Alexa chief), is driving this project.
Our Take:
Amazon isn’t playing around anymore. They’ve spent years trailing behind OpenAI, but with ‘Nova,’ they’re making a real move. If it’s actually good, Amazon could start replacing ChatGPT inside AWS and Alexa—and OpenAI would lose one of its biggest customers. If you’re an AI dev, this could shake up the landscape fast.
Digg.com Is Back
TL;DR:
Kevin Rose (Digg’s original founder) and Alexis Ohanian (Reddit co-founder) are bringing Digg.com back. Their goal? Build a better social platform—one that actually helps people find great content instead of being a toxic engagement machine.
Our Take:
It’s a bold move. Social media is a mess right now, but can Digg 2.0 actually change that? If anyone can fix social media, it’s the guy who built Reddit and the guy who built Digg—but nostalgia alone won’t be enough. If they don’t nail the execution, this could be another internet history lesson in 5 years.
